The case to make civil partnerships available to everyone is heading to the Supreme Court. Rebecca Steinfeld, 36, and Charles Keidan, 40 , will argue that by only allowing civil partnerships for same-sex couples, the Government is contravening equality laws.   They believe that if there’s a choice to be had then it should be available to everyone regardless of sexual orientation. And for better or worse, marriage comes with a lot of baggage; it isn’t everyone that wants religion and patriarchy associated with their relationship. But marriage does offer couples a number of legal, financial and ethical securities that aren’t so easily available to cohabiting couples. A High Court in Belfast will return a verdict on same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland later today. Northern Ireland remains the only part of the United Kingdom without an equal marriage law.
